difference keying is a pin in the butt, the only use I have found for it is with impeccably still backgrounds and no shadow proyections form the actors. It’s still not perfect, but it beats rotoscoping when you don’t have a blue screen handy.
I reckon you did a spiffing job!
The use of difference keying I saw demonstrated was to bring together multiple takes of the same scene to clone actors – or in this case cats – in Sony Vegas. I didn’t bookmark it as my software doesn’t do difference.
I’ll see if I can find it.
